Exhibition: Winter, by Julian Opie – Grades 4 and 5

Exhibition: Winter, by Julian Opie – Grades 4 and 5

Dear Parents,

The Bhau Daji Lad Museum in collaboration with The British Council brings the Exhibition Winter, by Julian Opie which centres around a sequence of seventy-five prints that represent a circular walk taken by the artist through the French countryside on a harsh but beautiful day. The prints absorb an eclectic range of influences, from 17th century Dutch landscape painting to street view on Google Maps, and are at the forefront of Opie’s continued investigation into the experience of landscape. The works are then laminated to a glass façade and presented in a grid format on the walls.

In lieu of our partnership with The British Council, we have organised a visit to the Bhau Daji Lad Museum at Byculla, for the students of Grades 4 and 5 on Tuesday, 1st September 2015. The students will visit the museum during school hours, dressed in complete school uniform.

Note: The hard copy of this circular has been given to your ward. Kindly fill in the tear off and submit it to the school.

Joy Of Giving

“The measure of your life will not be in what you accumulate, but in what you give away”

Dear Parents,

The Universal School has always believed in instilling values such as empathy, sensitivity and generosity in our students. Through events such as the ‘Joy Of Giving’ the students will be sensitised to the condition and needs of children, just like them, who are not as fortunate to have all the necessities of life.

For this purpose the school has joined hands with a social organisation “Pratham” to give a little something back to the community. Pratham is an innovative learning social organization created to improve the quality of education in India. As one of the largest non-governmental organizations in the country, Pratham focuses on high-quality, low-cost, and replicable interventions to address gaps in the education system. Its mission to improve the quality of education in India and ensure that all children not only attend but also thrive in school is being accomplished by working in collaboration with the government, local communities, parents, teachers, volunteers, and civil society members.

We are initiating a donation drive wherein we request you to generously donate school supplies such as school bags, books (notebooks, story books), stationery items, tiffin boxes etc… You can send in your donations to the class teachers till Tuesday, 25th August 2015.

We request to kindly motivate your wards and support this endeavour.

The Reading Programme

“A child who reads, will be an adult who thinks”

Dear Parents,

Initiating and following a structured reading programme, to inculcate in our students a love for reading has always been a point of focus at The Universal School. However, we feel that the students need to read more rigorously not only at school but also at home and hence this academic year, we have launched two more programmes that will benefit the students and improve their reading skills further.

  • We are delighted to announce the launch of The Leading Reading Schools of India Awards (LRSIA) 2016, which offers students a unique opportunity to be the judge and review books by acclaimed authors. Through this programme, children will become critical thinkers by digging into a book and analysing the characters, settings, plot and other story elements. From solving problems in class assignments to facing real world situations, critical thinking is a valuable skill for students to master. (Detailed circular to follow)

  • The school along with the British Council brings to you an innovative programme for the development of reading of the child called the Reading Challenge. The Reading Challenge is conceptualised by the Reading Agency in UK in collaboration with the BBC and the Arts Council of England. It is an interactive experience for the children that not only involves reading books but also engages them with a series of workshops and activities.

  • Apart from both of these new programmes the structured reading programme will continue at school so that students read on a regular basis. According to this programme, Grades 1 to 3 have a daily reading and story time session and Grades 4 to 8 follow a weekly reading period wherein the English readers are read and discussed in the class.

We urge you to motivate your wards because it is aptly said,  ‘You are what you read’

Independence Day and Investiture Ceremony

Independence Day and Investiture Ceremony

Dear Parents,

Independence Day is a day of great pride for all Indians as this is the day we remember our brave forefathers who fought against injustice so that we could enjoy our freedom. To celebrate this auspicious day, we will be holding the Investiture Ceremony of our newly elected student council members.

Grades I to IV  will celebrate the same on Friday, 14th August, and they can enjoy the national festival at home on the 15th as there will be no school for them on that day.

The students from grades V to X must report to school on 15th August at 7:45 a.m. sharp and be neatly dressed in their school uniforms.

Please Note: The bus service will not be available on that day, so you are requested to drop and pick up your ward from school. Snacks will be provided.

The timings for the day will be 7:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
