Jr. Kg – March & April 2017

Theme for the month: Our Helpers

As part of the Global Citizenship Theme – ‘Think Global, Act Local’, children must begin to understand the important contribution of the local community to which they belong. We feel safe and secure, thanks to the service provided by Community helpers, such as policeman, fireman, soldier, etc.

Through this theme your child will be introduced to the common community helpers, their role and service to the nation.

Effective usage of Audio Visual Learning, hands on experiences, technology and Role plays will be the methodology used.

Language:

Your child will learn to write letters Aa-Zz independently.

There will be recapitulation of all sounds and 3 letter words. Do reinforce the use of tricky words:this, that, say and her. Your child will also learn through rhymes, stories, show and tell activity, picture talk, book browsing, and newspaper reading. He/She will also learn to read short sentences.

Numeracy:

Reinforcement of numerals, concepts of colour, shape and size will be done.

At Home You Can:

Explore books related to the theme. By reading story books and making your home a print rich space, you will improve your child’s ability to master new learning. Do make your child share his/ her reflections of the stories read. This will develop thinking, reasoning as well as aid in confidence building. Please encourage your child for every effort made – he/she will do better in a motivating and positive environment.

The best way to make your child understand and appreciate the role community helpers play in our lives is through real experiences and dramatic play. To reinforce the concept, you can take your child for a trip to a local farm, stop and watch a local construction site to study the machines, write a thank you note to their teachers, watch the garbage and recycling trucks or browse the internet to learn more.
