Theme for the month: Exploring the Water World

There are millions of animal species on the earth, therefore, it is important to be able to identify them and understand their habitats and characteristics so that we can co-exist with each other.
This month, we shall discover yet another exciting theme ‘Exploring the Water World’. The oceans are full of life, from unicellular creatures to the mighty blue whale. The variety of life in the ocean is incredible. In this theme your child  will learn about the names of the four major oceans, the amount of land in the world in relation to the amount of water. He or she  will also learn about different sea creatures like starfish, seahorse, jellyfish, and octopus. He or she  will learn about the adaptations that help them to survive, reproduce, smell, escape predators and their way of communication.
The focus will also be on conservation management by creating awareness in your child about how our actions may affect the animals that live there. He or she will also learn various ways of managing the valuable natural resources wisely by recycling, disposing trash properly and making the oceans a better place for the marine life to survive.
Effective use of Audio Visuals learning, technology, arts and craft and Role plays will be used as the methodology.

Language:
Introduction to digraphs and the revision of the below mentioned tricky words.
come, said, some, they, there, here, one, by, like, have, live, give. 
Phonic books will reinforce the concepts learnt.
Do reinforce the use of new vocabulary: big, large, huge, funny, hilarious, amused, tasty, yummy, delicious, strong, and healthy.

Numeracy:
The child will learn numerals from 1 – 50 with number names six, seven and eight. We shall also do concepts of same / different, introduction to diamond shape with recapitulation of other shapes.

The concepts of Water and Water Cycle, Water Pollution, Floating and Sinking will be explained.

At Home You Can:

Read informative books as well as story books about sea creatures as the central characters. By reading story books and making your home a print rich space, you will improve your child’s ability to master new learning.

Do make your child share his/her reflections of the stories read. This will develop thinking & reasoning skills, as well as aid in confidence building. Please encourage your children for every effort made; they will do better in a motivating and positive environment.
